The Lord never sends His people to evaluate what He has already declared. When God spoke to Moses, the language of heaven was already settled: “the land… which I am giving.” The spies were not commissioned to determine whether the promise was possible — they were sent to witness what was already theirs by divine decree.

Arise, Shine, for Your Light Has Come!

As Elul nears its close, the prophetic consolation swells to a crescendo. Jerusalem is no longer told merely to wait for comfort — she is commanded to arise and shine. Though thick darkness will cover the nations, the glory of the Lord will break forth on His people. The Bride is not called to shrink back, but to radiate the brilliance of her Beloved.

Awake, O Watchman!

The cry of Elul is not only for comfort — it is for awakening. Isaiah sees the watchmen on Zion’s walls lifting their voices together, proclaiming salvation and declaring: “Your God reigns!” This is the prophetic call of Elul: to rise from slumber, to take our place on the walls, and to publish the good news with urgency.

In a world full of uncertainty, this verse from Romans stands like a lighthouse in the storm: “The God of hope…” Not just the God who gives hope, but the very source of it. When everything around us seems shaken — economies falter, nations rage, relationships strain — it is the God of hope who remains unshaken and unchanging.

For over 25 years we’ve been covering Christian Persecution, and whenever I come across an amazing story of how a saint endured such hardships, it encourages me. I remember reading about Watchman Nee and his imprisonment. The Chinese government would change the guards at his cell daily for fear that Nee would lead them to the Lord. Their fears were justified — many of those guards did come to faith! Apparently Watchman Nee had learned a powerful lesson from the Apostle Paul.

As we continue this study of the Dead Sea Scrolls we jump to 1963 and the unearthing of Masada.

Flavius Josephus the Jewish historian recorded the tragic events at Masada in “The Jewish Wars.” Masada was ignored for years as it reminded the Rabbis of the failures of the many false messiahs that appeared after Yeshua (Jesus).
