The life of the new creation is lived from the inside out, and the primary battleground is the mind. Salvation transforms the spirit in a moment, but transformation of the mind is a daily work of the Spirit. The new creation cannot be sustained with old thought patterns. If identity is to be lived out fully, the mind must be renewed to agree with heaven rather than echo the world.

Every transformation begins in the mind. What you believe about God — and about yourself in Him — shapes how you walk, how you respond, how you live. You can be redeemed in spirit and yet still live bound if your mind remains shackled to earthly thinking. This is why Scripture commands us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2). True identity takes root when your thoughts come into alignment with what heaven already declares about you.

As soon as we were translated into the Kingdom of Light, we entered a spiritual war — and we must realize the warfare we face on a day-to-day basis. Constantly contending in our minds, we battle over thoughts and emotions which flow through them. The enemy often attacks by bringing up issues from our past.

The high priest of Ancient Israel wore a crown of pure gold on his head called a Nezer, which comes from the word “nazar”. This word “nazar” means to dedicate, consecrate and sacredly separate. The word “nazarite” comes from this root, and describes someone who has taken a vow to be separated from the world.

Set my mind on things above where my life is hidden with Christ…
…every problem, every issue, every fear, every practical matter concerning nature and flesh, to be reckoned in the light of a spiritual identity, a reality which I cannot see, a Heaven which is somewhere outside my universe. And Paul says, “Seek that!” How do I do that? How do I stretch my attention into the Heavenly realm…set my mind on things above?

Perhaps this Scripture just hit me harder when I read it, living here in Israel under the circumstances but I believe there is a word for all of us here.
