When Elianna was two years old, we wrote this devotional fifteen years ago that I believe is relevant especially as we celebrated Father’s day around the world.

We have a cord-free, battery-free alarm clock — we call her Elianna. Like clockwork, at 6:45 each morning our 2-year old daughter, Elianna wakes up and begins calling for us to come and greet her good morning. At this point, my wife and I have come to the conclusion that those 8-hour sleep nights we used to enjoy just aren’t going to happen again –at least for a long, long time.

Get back to basics!

Race car driving champion Bill Vukovich won the infamous Indianapolis 500 race two times, a record of success few others have achieved. When asked about the secret of his success in the race, Vukovich simply replied, “There’s no secret. You just press the accelerator to the floor and steer left.”

All the hills, now rolling endlessly with green — they are not owned by anyone. Miles and miles of grass and wild flowers suddenly shoot forth where there was nothing but brown before! It was just waiting for someone to water it! And God brought the rains.

Become one with a Perfect Heart!

Let’s look at the character of the men who joined themselves to David. First of all, they were men of war who could keep rank with a perfect heart. They were men who worked in cooperation with one another – each knowing his position and so able to give orders as well as obey them. They walked in fellowship one with another. Secondly, they were single-hearted men, wholeheartedly devoted to making David king over Israel, and their minds were set to advance David’s kingdom…
