Surprise!

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to throw my wife a surprise birthday party …“tried” is the key word here. Surprise is an essential element in a surprise party and unfortunately, I failed to achieve it.

It’s so difficult to surprise some people though, isn’t it? People like my wife who are always expecting or suspecting something are terribly hard to fool! I tell you, I really tried but I just wasn’t able to pull it off! Incidentally, Riv said that it was pretty obvious that I was up to something when I volunteered to fix the bed before we left the house! Oh well — I guess there’s always next year.

But it did get me thinking about surprises and expectation. I believe the Lord has many surprises in store for those who love Him and seek to do His will. And I think He wants us to expect them! Yes, I think it’s good and even necessary to expect them!

Some of us may have been in a rut for a while but today is the day to make a change! Let’s determine to believe the Lord for awesome things today and expect some fun surprises!
