Isaiah 66:1-2 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
Last night, in our hotel room in England, was this really nice lounge chair … and it reminded me of this passage in Isaiah.
The scripture says God’s captain chair, His throne, is in heaven… and his footstool is right here on earth! This planet is God’s footstool. That means everything – the mountains, the rivers, oceans, your home, under His feet…but, more than that, your problems, your worries, your fears – they are all under His feet as well!
So stop worrying and relax – give those problems over to God, kick up your feet, and rest in Him, realizing that every issue you’re dealing with is also truly under His feet, and that He never slumbers or sleeps!
Upon browsing through some scrapbook web sites I came upon a web site which gave info on heritage scrapbooking. I read your comment (I think it was your comment) about whether your ancestors had a true relationship with Jesus or if their faith was only ritual. Then I read the bible verse and comment following. I just want to say that it is rare to come across a person talking about Jesus dying for our sins and the sovereignty of our God. Thank you. Will meet you in heaven, Beth
This earth belongs to God, our problems belong to God, every person we meet belongs to God (figuratively speaking of course.) Do we worry over what will happen to us here? Do we address and tackle our problems as if we are alone in them? Do we treat people as they deserve to be treated?
God gave us a footrest of sorts – for us to prop our feet upon. That footrest is faith and trust in Christ. “All who are weary and heavy laden” can find perfect rest in Christ inspite of what is going on around us. Our problems belong to God; our circumstances belong to God; our very future belongs to God.
We can either choose to put our feet up and rest in him or not. If not, it is not because God has not provided rest for us. It is because our faith in Him is lacking trust.
Thank you, Father, for unconditionally loving and caring for me. Help me to better trust you in absolutely everything seen and unseen. This world and my life is in your very capable and wise hands.
I found this devotional to be very helpful as well as the comment by Lynn. This is something that I struggle with often and I am trying to change that. Thank you Lord for never sleeping but taking care of all my worries and problems. Thank you Lord for your reassurance in this devotional as well as your word.
I have been tatched by this message of the foot i have been going through asitituation that it is only God who can bail me out. i have learnt that God is with us in all that we go through despite the circumustances. I have let every thing in God’s hands to fight all ma battles. Thank u so much be blessed
“…poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.” These words have such value to me.
Christianity is the only “religion” that isn’t about doing but resting, and when we rest we will do more that ever thought possible.
Amen
